Theory & Playing Classes
2009-2010

Regularly scheduled monthly Theory & Playing classes will resume in September.  These classes include keyboard theory, music history, music appreciation, ear training, sight singing, sight reading, music theory games, and preparation for Certificate of Merit Theory Exams and Royal Conservatory of Music Theoretical Subject Exams.  Students also have the opportunity to perform pieces or technical studies from their current repertoire.  All students are expected to attend a minimum of 5-6 Theory & Playing Classes between the beginning of September 2009 and end of March 2010.  The fee per class will appear on your statement each month that your child attends a Theory & Playing Class.  If you cannot attend one of your scheduled classes, just let me know; we will reschedule you to a different group that month.  Theory & Playing Class Fees include the use of circulating studio sight reading books, studio ear-training CDs, music theory games, test-preparation materials, and photocopying expenses for practice theory tests and review worksheets.  Theory & Playing Class Fees do not include the cost of CM or RCM Theory Workbooks or RCM Melody Playback and Rhythm Clapback books; these items will be invoiced on your monthly billing statement when distributed.  (I will try to implement a trade-in system for the RCM Melody Playback and Rhythm Clapback books.)

We will also have special composition workshops scheduled throughout the year, including song writing and film scoring, as well as instruction in traditional composition.

Classes are typically on Sunday afternoons and scheduled around various events, such as Romantic Festival, Baroque Festival, Contemporary Festival, Bach Festival, Royal Conservatory of Music/National Music Certificate Program Examinations and Certificate of Merit Evaluations.

The preliminary Theory & Playing Class schedule for 2009-2010 is listed below.
All dates and times are subject to change as dates for other events are announced.
